Bioinnovation PSM

Professional Science Master’s in Bioinnovation

Learn to bridge science, business and innovation to help transform biological discoveries into real-world solutions with the Professional Science Master’s (PSM) in Bioinnovation​ from Temple’s College of Science and Technology. This 30-credit graduate degree program focuses on the translating biological discoveries into products, technologies and solutions that improve lives and create meaningful societal and economic impact. Students build interdisciplinary fluency across science and business while acquiring practical skills that can be applied immediately in professional settings across the life sciences sector. 

Taught by industry experts and faculty scholars from both CST and the Fox School of Business and Management, the Bioinnovation PSM offers

  • an interdisciplinary science and business curriculum,
  • applied training in professional and management skills, and
  • choice of a business- or science-focused curriculum to align with personal career goals.

The Bioinnovation PSM prepares you to work at the intersection of science, business, entrepreneurship and innovation through hands-on projects and a capstone addressing real-world challenges across the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.

Program Format & Curriculum

All students begin with an interdisciplinary core designed to build foundational fluency across science, business and innovation with courses such as 

  • Biomarkers and Biotargets: Research and Commercialization;
  • Dissemination of Biodiscoveries and Virtual Reality in Medicine;
  • Entrepreneurial Thinking and New Venture Creation; and
  • Business Model Innovation.

Then, they tailor their Bioinnovation PSM experience to their interests and career goals through one of the two concentration pathways.

Concentrations

This degree program can be completed with or without a concentration. Your concentration options include

  • Business

    This concentration explores the intersection of business and bioinnovation in collaboration with the Fox School of Business. Coursework emphasizes entrepreneurial thinking, business model innovation and strategic project management, and you’ll learn to manage pivotal business alliances, start-ups and commercialized research.     This concentration focuses on the science of bioinnovation. With an emphasis on experimental design, translational biomodel development and application of new technologies, you'll gain the skills to build a career in biotechnology, drug development and more with a foundation in the ethics of a human-centered pursuit of innovative answers to real-world challenges. Both pathways prepare professionals to navigate the intersection of science and business.

Classes for the Bioinnovation PSM are held remotely, in the evening to accommodate working professionals. The advanced, career-focused curriculum is designed for recent graduates and working professionals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree in the life sciences, chemistry, engineering or business, or a professional degree in law or the health professions. It requires 30 credit-hours of coursework and may be completed in two years. Classes are a blend of seminar, independent study and group projects. Students must also successfully complete a final capstone project as a graduation requirement.

+1 Accelerated Degree Programs

Temple undergraduates can pursue dual degrees with an accelerated +1 dual bachelor’s + master’s degree option. The Bioinnovation PSM can be completed through the +1 accelerated pathway if the required qualifications are met by junior year.

  • +1 BA or BS in Biology + Bioinnovation PSM
  • +1 BS in Genomic Medicine + Bioinnovation PSM
  • +1 BS in Genomic Medicine with Pre-Medicine Concentration + Bioinnovation PSM

  • +1 BS in Neuroscience + Bioinnovation PSM
